社会学是研究“人与社会、社会结构、社会过程与社会变迁”等问题的学问，即从社会整体出发，通过社会关系和社会行动来研究社会结构及其功能、社会过程及其原因和规律的社会科学。是社会科学的基础性学科。社会学是现代社会的产物，我国正处于社会急剧变迁期，经济体制变革、社会结构变动、思想观念变化，对社会学提出了艰巨的任务和良好的发展机会。开设社会学课程的目的是提高学生综合理论水平；增强对社会问题的背景的理解。在教学过程中，教师应注意使用案例进行教学。在解释清楚基本概念、基本问题的基础上重点培养学生能力和兴趣，培养学生关注、识别、表达、分析、解决复杂问题的综合能力。在学习过程中，学生切忌死记硬背，重在关注、理解和运用。
