社会工作导论是公共管理专业的专选课程之一，也是一门操作性很强的课程。但是，在教学过程中，教师不能满足于零碎的知识掌握和个别技巧的实施，必须从理性层面引导、启发学生了解具体的操作原因、步骤和结果。因此，本课程要求全面地介绍社会工作的知识体系。社会工作基本原理部分介绍社会工作的性质与发展历史，分析社会工作与社会问题及相关学科的关系，探讨社会工作的价值观和职业道德。社会工作方法部分介绍个案工作、小组工作、社区工作等一系列社会工作的经典方法。因此，在教学过程中要遵循科学、实用和启发探索的精神，既要讲授各方面社会工作的内容，还要尽量讲清工作的理论基础，从而为学生深入思考提供基础，激发学生积极参与社会实践、社区建设的积极性，培养学生用社会工作的各种相关理论去解决社会中各类具体问题的能力，促进我国社会工作职业化的进程。
